Angel Lam is a GRAMMY-nominated composer praised as having "precious, soaring lyrical lines" by Opera News of Metropolitan Opera, and "an otherworldly, poetic short story...[with] rich, singing tone and sense of drama” by New York Times. She has received three Carnegie Hall commissions before the age of 29, including a cello concerto dedicated to Yo-Yo Ma and the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra, commissioned and featured in the Carnegie Hall-New York City wide Festival "Ancient Paths, Modern Voices". Another of her commission was featured in the Yo-Yo Ma and Silk Road Ensemble album New Impossibilities, as well as in the Grammy-nominated Best Classical Crossover Album Off the Map.
She is the 2021-2022 recipient of the Opera America Discovery Grant award. In 2017-2020, Aaron Copland Foundation, Music from Copland House Ensemble commissioned and toured her music in the U.S. In 2018, two of her compositions toured seven Japanese cities, sponsored by Asia America New Music Institute (AANMI) and the U.S. Embassy. Currently, her multimedia work commissioned by Boston-based Hub New Music Ensemble is touring U.S. and is scheduled for a CD recording release. This year her solo guitar work “Little snow” was published in the Guitar Foundation of America’s repertoire book The Spotlight Series. The work is also this year’s International Concert Artist Competition’s official repertoire piece in the worldwide semifinals competition.
